160 Million People, 300 drones, 1 Half Time Show: But Was It Live?

By February 7, 2017 No Comments

In case you missed Lady Gaga’s Superbowl Half Time Show, it featured over 300 synchronized drones flying above NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. But how is that legal? It’s not.

In fact, drones are forbidden within 34.5 miles of NRG Stadium. And the FAA doesn’t exactly like a swarm of drones flying above 80,000 American football fans. So how did they do it?

Well, truth be told: they pretaped the drones, as reported in Bloomberg, Wired, and The Verge.

We may be able to sync hundreds of drones but you still can’t fly them over the Super Bowl. It’s funny the things you learn at the water cooler in your coworking space!
